Presbyterian Church of the Atonement’s Men’s Ministry is an active and growing community of men within the church body. The ministry seeks to find and develop many
different ways and opportunities for men to encourage one another and serve others.
Vision for Atonement Men’s Ministry
Every man in our church acknowledges Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and seeks to serve and
glorify Him alone in all aspects of life.
Mission for Atonement Men’s Ministry
Empower men to a life fulfilling God’s call and purpose.
Atonement Men’s Ministry is a member of the Washington Area Coalition of Men’s Ministries (
www.wacmm.org
). Get ready for Stand in the Gap 2007 on Saturday, October 6, 2007
www.standinthegap2007.org). Where were you on October 4, 1997? That’s the date when almost 1 million men
gathered in Washington, D.C. before the nation and the Lord “…to present to the Lord godly men on their knees in humility, then on their feet in unity,
reconciled and poised for revival and spiritual awakening." Will you join another gathering of men 10 years later to Return, Remember, Renew, and Rebuild?
Opportunities for fellowship with other men at Atonement include:
- Men’s
bible and book studies – summer and fall Adult Education classes have a
men-focused emphasis. Some of the
recent book studies include If You
Want to Walk on Water, You’ve Got
to Get Out of the Boat by John Ortberg and Man in the Mirror by
Patrick Morely. The classes are
fast paced and interactive. There
is also time set aside during week for men to get together and discuss the
book or other issues in an informal setting. Keep a look out for announcements in
Atonement Life for when these classes are forming.
- Men’s
small groups – Many men at Atonement meet regularly with other men in a
setting outside of the church to encourage and pray for one another and
develop strong bonds of Christian fellowship. This is an area the men’s ministry would
like to see grow and flourish. If
you are interested in participating in a men’s small group, contact John

to find out how.
- Sports
– The church has developed a tradition of playing flag or touch football
on New’s Years day and on Super Bowl Sunday. This event is not just for men, women
have come out and let the guys have it in the past! And then in spring, the church sponsors a
men’s softball team in the Montgomery Christian Softball Association. The team meets every Saturday from late
April into June to play a double header with other church teams within the
county. A great time is had by
everyone and most importantly, Christ is glorified through our
sportsmanship. Announcements for
the team are normally made through Atonement Life in late spring.
- Service
opportunities – Our church has been blessed with many opportunities to
serve others. The men’s ministry
has taken the lead in several projects that benefit the community and
others. Some of the recent service
projects include helping with a move, attending to BBQ duty at church cook
outs, minor construction and renovation projects, a major kitchen
renovation for the Strategies to Elevate People (STEP) ministry in Washington, D.C.,
and a significant construction project of an addition to a house for a
missionary from the church. Some of
these projects are fun and some can be challenging but all provide an
opportunity to serve a need and work with other men from the church.
- Saturday
Men’s breakfast – During the school year, the men’s ministry sponsors a
Saturday morning breakfast on the first Saturday of every month. A hot and hearty breakfast is served
along with camaraderie and fellowship among other men. After breakfast a short discussion or
presentation of various topics is presented. It is a guaranteed way to start the weekend
right. Announcements are made in
Atonement Life and via e-mail prior to the event.
